Ida Summers was a renowned gambler and a casino cheater. In the 60s and 70s,  she reeled in thousands of dollars in the casinos using guile and shiftiness.

She was a specialist in  “hand mucking” and switching in “coolers” at the blackjack tables. Hand mucking involves concealing a card that has been brought to the table or removed from play, then through sleight of hand returning it to play when it will benefit the player. Her attractiveness, sociability, and her small stature went a long way in shifting attention from her as she effortlessly switched cards in and out of the deck. She moved to Las Vegas and continued her tricks. It is important to note that at this time cheating was highly frowned upon compared to now.

Later, she upgraded her cunning strategy. She began to insert cold decks or coolers into the games. Cold decks are pre-stacked decks, brought in by the player, that are traded out with the deck being used in the game. It is an incredibly dangerous maneuver to pull in a casino, but somehow Ida was able to pull it off. The fact that there were really no known female cheats at the time made her nearly invincible for a while. Soon she became a legend among the shady underworld of casino cheats. Her cheating streak ended as the FBI and gaming officials ultimately brought her down.

Better known as “Poker Alice,” the three-times widower Alice Huckert was a professional gambler, bootlegger, and brothel owner. Alice Born in 1851.
